Habitat for Humanity South Central MN builds houses for affordable homeownership throughout a five county region supported by fundraising, in-kind materials, corporate partnerships and volunteer labor.

Job Summary:

  • Responsible for onsite management and construction of homes from build site preparation through the receipt of the Certificate of Occupancy and final inspection with the future homeowners.
  • Ensure quality and safety standards are met
  • Work to maximize efficient and effective practices to enable the organization to serve more families in a timely way
  • Work well with other members of Habitat staff, construction volunteers, future homeowners, subcontractors, and suppliers and shall represent the Habitat ministry in a professional manner
  • Teach, supervise, and perform all construction tasks necessary to complete a residential structure, upholding extensive energy efficiency standards while maintaining a safe work site and positive volunteer experience
  • Ensure and maintain safe and efficient operations of all sites.
  • Manage all active construction activities from project planning, budget management, working with industry professionals, securing permits, scheduling projects and personnel, and managing subcontractors for new residential construction
  • Schedule, develop floor plans, scopes of work and estimates for rehab and home repair projects and provide onsite construction oversight of rehab or home repair

Financial Management Responsibilities:

  • Approve all construction-related invoices and ensure they are obtained in timely manner
  • Assist finance director in estimating the value of in-kind gifts and obtaining invoices for donated services
  • Work with staff to prepare an annual budget for all construction projects
  • Monitor budget to actual spending, and maintain cash-flow forecasting
  • Oversee project take-offs, and work with staff for in-kind construction materials and service donations

Knowledge, skills and abilities:

  • Specialized knowledge and competencies in home repair, home rehabilitation, residential construction, the uniform building code and volunteer management.
  • Ability to solve problems efficiently to maintain forward progress on complicated projects.
  • Proven proficiency in peer management and dissemination of pertinent information.
  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills necessary to communicate clearly and professionally with volunteers, contractors and suppliers, and to address cross-departmental issues.
  • Ability to devise and teach – with patience – simple construction methods.
  • Ability to manage large groups of unskilled people.
  • Have a temperament that is suitable for the environment of a volunteer crew and the ability to create a work environment that is cheerful, productive and inclusive.
  • Work collaboratively as a team to maintain a positive, supportive and mission focused work culture.
  • Specialized knowledge and competencies in home repair, home rehabilitation, residential construction, the uniform building code and volunteer management.
  • Strong analytical ability, reliability and thoroughness
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Superior time management and organizational skills, with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Ability to learn and work independently in an unstructured environment and as a team player.
  • Ability to work diplomatically with others to discuss and resolve problems.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office projects.
  • Team Motivation – Ability to use positive and supportive strategies to achieve success and lead by example


  • Construction Management: 5 year (Preferred)
  • Residential construction: 5 year
  • Residential rehab: 2 year (Preferred)
  • Education: High school or equivalent
  • Post – Secondary degree in Construction Management (Preferred)
  • MN Contractor License (Preferred)
  • Supervisory and/or teaching experience desired, but not required.
  • Able to lift up to 75 pounds on a periodic basis.
  • Qualified applicants must pass criminal & sex offender registry
  • Valid MN Driver’s Liscense

This is a full-time, permanent position. Salary TBD based on experience. Open until filled.
