Volunteer Signup

Habitat for Humanity is a volunteer-dependent organization; without great volunteers like you, we cannot accomplish our mission of providing safe and affordable housing for hard-working families in South Central Minnesota.

The majority of our volunteer opportunities happen on our build sites or in the ReStore. We occasionally need volunteers to help with office work or special event help as well.

ALL VOLUNTEERS need to fill out a Volunteer Interest Form and a Release & Liability Waiver. They can be found by clicking the buttons below:

Why volunteer at Habitat for Humanity?

  • Challenge yourself while helping others.
  • Benefit your career and build your resume: develop new job skills, explore career possibilities without risk — all while volunteering for a great cause.
  • Make new friends, build personal contacts, develop communication skills, and share your skills with others.
  • Studies show folks who volunteer live longer and hold higher levels of self-confidence. By making a difference, having fun, and feeling appreciated, it’s clear to see why.

Volunteer Opportunities

Build Site Volunteers

We build multiple homes in our five county area each build season, and are always looking for volunteers with all kinds of skill sets to help us finish those homes. Construction experience is not necessary!

Construction work is conducted year-round, weekdays 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., both indoors and outdoors. Volunteering at the job site is a great way to keep your body and mind sharp by combining physical work with problem-solving skills. Enjoy the vast variety of tasks construction work offers while experiencing the satisfaction of building a home for a family in need – from the ground up.

There are a few requirements to volunteer on one of our build sites:

  • 18 years of age or older
  • Be able to physically perform duties such as lifting up to 20 lbs.
  • Have a great attitude and a willingness to learn

ReStore Volunteers

The Habitat for Humanity ReStore is a thrift store that specializes in home improvement items. Every item in our ReStore is donated by local businesses and individuals. They are a combination of new and used items, all sold at a reduced price, with all profits going to South Central MN Habitat to help build new homes for hard-working families.

Volunteers in the ReStore help in a variety of ways. Depending on your abilities and what our need is on the day you volunteer, you may help with intake and processing of donations, assisting customers shopping in the store, helping on the cash register, organizing and merchandising shelves, and helping with general cleaning of donations and the store.

There are a few requirements to volunteer at our ReStore:

  • 16 years of age or older
  • Be able to physically perform duties such as lifting up to 20 lbs.
  • Have a great attitude and a willingness to learn

Other Volunteer Activities

If you would be interested in volunteering any other ways with Habitat for Humanity, such as:

  • Providing snacks/meals for volunteers
  • Helping with office work
  • Photography or video
  • Serving on a committee

or anything else you think could help us out, please reach out to Sarah at sarah.reckard@habitatscmn.org or 507-388-2081 ext 204.
